Dedicated hydraulic powerpack for soil sampling

Hydrauvision designed, built and delivered a hydraulic power unit (HPU) with specific functions for a Fugro Large Piston Corer (FLPC) at the instructions of an engineering company. This is a device that can be used for soil sampling. This usually takes place in a marine environment.

The project

The client collects and interprets data about the Earth’s surface and the (sea) bottom and gives advice based on this for, in many cases, the oil and gas industries. Soil samples are taken with the FLPC in often non-consolidated sediments.

Our approach

Hydrauvision designed, built and delivered an HPU and a valve island for this project. The HPU has an offshore-proof housing. It has stainless steel doors and hardware. The HPU has a radio-controlled remote control. This can be used to operate the 8 double operating functions. The functions are, for example, used for A-frame in/out, crane left/right and up/down and heave/lower winch. Except for one, all functions are proportional hydraulic.
